King Fuchai of Wu's Mirror

This Wu Wang Fuchai mirror, unearthed in 1994 from Jinsheng Village, southern suburbs of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, is 38.5 cm high and has a diameter of 62.7 cm. The neck is decorated with scale patterns, and the abdomen with coiled dragon patterns and hanging leaf patterns. There are symmetrical animal ear rings on both sides of the vessel. There is an inscription on the inner wall of the vessel:

Made for Wu Wang Fuchai, selecting auspicious bronze for this mirror.

"Royal mirror" means a mirror for use by the ruler. This artifact was unearthed in Jin territory, and some experts believe it may be related to the Battle of Huangchi. Others believe that after Yue destroyed Wu, Wu nobles fled to the Sanjin region, and this artifact may have been brought there by Wu nobles.
