“Wu hooks and Yue swords, renowned throughout the land”, Wu and Yue weaponry holds an important position in the history of Chinese weaponry, its forging techniques far surpassing those of other vassal states of the same era.
2022In August of this year, our museum borrowed a batch of significant cultural relics from Suizhou Museum, including the first-class relic “Prince Guang’s Halberd”. According to the loan agreement, these relics are due to be returned on December 24. Given the significant value of “Prince Guang’s Halberd” to the Helu City Museum, our museum has applied to Suizhou Museum to extend the loan. The application received strong support from Suizhou Museum, who agreed to extend the loan of the two precious relics “Prince Guang’s Halberd” and “Tang Marquis Tripod” for another year.
Therefore, you will still have the opportunity to admire the splendor of Wu king's weaponry up close in the coming year. In addition, our museum is also busy planning new exhibitions, so stay tuned.
Prince Guang’s Halberd: A double halberd with spikes, with a spear point at the end of the haft, and two halberd blades positioned vertically on the upper section of the haft. The halberd is entirely black, with an inner blade on the upper blade and no inner blade on the lower blade. Flame-shaped dark patterns adorn the hu and yuan, and the hu is inscribed with the same inlaid gold bird seal script inscription: “For the use of Prince Guang of Wu”. This shows that the maker was Prince Guang of Wu, who later became King Helu of Wu.
Tang Marquis Tripod: Square with attached ears, open mouth, folded rim, shallow belly, flat bottom, and three-legged support. The rim is decorated with a band of swirling patterns, below which is a band of raised string patterns. The inner wall of the belly is inscribed with a 12-character inscription:
(Tang) Marquis made this tripod for the lady of Sui, may it bring lasting good fortune”, it is a vessel made by the Tang Marquis for Lady Sui, and is the first time a vessel of the Tang Marquis has been seen, making it extremely precious.
