Today, May 18th, the Helu City Ruins Museum celebrated its third International Museum Day. From "Museum Collections Build Bridges of Communication" in 2014, to "Museums Committed to Sustainable Development of Society" in 2015, and this year's theme, "Museums and Cultural Landscapes," each year's theme has guided the Helu City Ruins Museum to steadily advance in its mission of inheriting historical culture and public education.
This year's International Museum Day theme, "Museums and Cultural Landscapes," emphasizes everyone's responsibility in protecting and enhancing cultural landscapes. As a unit dedicated to preserving and inheriting cultural relics and heritage, museums have an even greater responsibility to fulfill their mission. Regardless of size, every museum, as a inheritor of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in its region, is obliged to pass down these historical relics, seeking preservation through inheritance, and better preservation through inheritance. This is the direction the Helu City Ruins Museum has been diligently pursuing for over three years. The museum's design itself is smooth and flowing, resembling a phoenix emerging from its shell, signifying "phoenix nirvana" and symbolizing Helu City's rebirth and resurgence after 2500 years—a theme that resonates with this year's focus. Besides the original exhibition halls, new exhibitions continue to enrich the museum's offerings, including halls such as "Exploring Ancient Wu," "Passing Down the Torch," "Ritual Music and Spring and Autumn," "Helu's Might," "Ancient Wu Style," and "Clear and Upright Governance." Temporary exhibitions are also held regularly. In terms of innovative cultural communication, the museum has compiled a series of books recounting the history of the Wu region—such as "The Helu Dynasty," "The Fuchai Dynasty," and "Exploring Helu City"—and, capitalizing on the popularity of comics and Weibo amongst young people, has developed a well-received online series of comics, #Pictures of Helu Stories#. The museum has also partnered with Liren Elementary School to offer special cultural courses for students and organizes themed activities during summer holidays and other breaks, inviting young people to visit the museum and experience history and culture.
Three years of exploration and practice have paved a clearer path forward for the Helu City Ruins Museum. On this path, the museum will continue to uphold its responsibility of cultural preservation and inheritance, fully utilizing its role as a public education platform and truly fulfilling its mission.
