Han dynasty tomb figures

This display case showcases a significant number of earthenware figurines unearthed at Xi'an University of Finance and Economics. Xi'an University of Finance and Economics Xingzhi College is located in Baqiao District, Xi'an City. In August 2013, during the construction of the college, a batch of Han Dynasty earthenware figurines were unexpectedly unearthed in an abandoned well. These figurines are large in size and finely crafted, making them rare and exquisite finds among the Han Dynasty figurines discovered in recent years. The unearthed location of these figurines is approximately 2.2 kilometers northeast of the Tomb of Empress Dou, and about 1.3 kilometers northeast of Emperor Wen's Baling Mausoleum in the eastern part of Jiangcun. It is approximately 1.4 kilometers south of the center of the Southern Mausoleum of Empress Bo. By comparing the spatial relationship between the discovery site of these figurines and the Tomb of Empress Dou, it can be concluded that they are unrelated to the Tomb of Empress Dou. Although the unearthed location of these figurines is not far from the Jiangcun large tomb, observation of the overall topography shows that their relationship with the Jiangcun large tomb is not very close. Overall observation of the characteristics of the unearthed figurines reveals a striking similarity in form to the figurines found in the burial pits of the Southern Mausoleum, suggesting they are from the same period. Therefore, archaeologists speculate that these figurines may have been funerary objects from the burial pits of the Southern Mausoleum, later dug up by local villagers and discarded into the abandoned well before being filled and buried.
